I read this today on our Town Newsgroup and had to get it out to a larger audience.
Just days ago the Clark family was featured in the Burlington Free Press
A few weeks back I was at the Jericho Firehouse with my son, who was there to fulfill a Boy Scout requirement, when Randy was telling me about this very situation. The next day I attempted to reach out to my elected officials and I’m sad to report that neither of them had the time to get back to me. Our town is currently represented by George Till and Bill Frank. I did not contact any my Senators about this, but that was mostly because none of them have ever bothered to respond to any my previous inquiries on any number of issues, with the exception of Diane Snelling & Tim Ashe.
Update 02/21/2011 – George Till has made contact and is planning to contact Randy

Here is today’s plea from the Clark’s -
Clark’s Truck Center, Randy & Kitty Clark, needs your help by Feb. 23rd.
In January of 2009, Randy & Kitty decided to replace the existing
(since 1986) Time and Temperature sign, as it had worn out after flipping
time/temp for 22 1/2 years (over 114 million times). The zoning process with
the Town of Jericho took seven months and officially on August 8, 2009 we
displayed the first community message…”Happy Birthday Brian”. Since that time
we have displayed over 900 community messages.

Welcome to Jericho
When someone posts a community message (meeting, dance, dinner, or
other function) these are all done for free. If you would like a birthday,
anniversary, thank you, or more personal message of interest to the community,
we ask that you make a donation (average $25 to $30) and that money (100%) is
given back to the communities of Jericho and Underhill. The message appears
from 6am to 11pm on whatever dates are requested by the person requesting the
message.
In the last 18 months of operation (Aug 2009 to Feb 2011) we have
received donations of over $8,000: $4269 for North Underhill Cemetery; $3,222
for Carter Family; and $620 for Fisher Family which has been cut off by the
State of Vermont.
The State of Vermont is following up on one written complaint that
they have received in the last 18 months and they find that our Community
Message Board does not meet the State Sign Laws enacted in 1971, which we agree,
as these laws were not designed for Liquid Emitting Diodes (LED) signs. Today’s
signs could be compared to the computer industry…in 1971 did you have a
computer, of course not and neither did we have an LED sign! We all know the
electronics industry has introduced us to a whole new world.
OK, how can you help? Please send an email to:
randy.h.clark@… and express “your” reasons why you think
that we should be able to keep our Community Message Board and also display
birthdays, anniversaries, thank you’s, etc. and raise money for the communities
needs. Or that it is a way that we can keep in touch as to the happenings in
town, such as meetings, road closures, items of interest to us.
For a complete history of our Community Message board please go to:
clarkstruckcenter.com and click on “Message Board”. Our meeting with the State
of Vermont is Thursday Feb. 24th, so if you could send your support by the 23rd,
it would be most appreciated.
Thank you,
Randy & Kitty Clark

Michael,
I want you to know that Kitty and I appreciate your help. You and your family have been life time friends and again we sincerely appreciate your support.
Your friends
Randy & Kitty
We need to keep the sign. It is a landmark for everyone. It lets everyone know where to turn whether going north, south, east or west. Everyone knows where it is and everyone reads it. It is also a place to check to see what is going on in the community. It would be a major loss to the community if it were removed or not used.
